You'd think so, wouldn't you? But we live in a world where, a few years ago, the Prime Minister of Australia said, direct quote:

"The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia."

According to a slight acquaintance who works in IT, the ignorance of politicians the world over about what is and isn't possible is both staggering and depressing.
