Exactly. We're living in an age where nationalism and literal "follow the Leader" is being woven into legislations for the sole purpose of protecting amoral narcissists with egos thinner than human hair. I can't stand when religion is thrown into it, especially when the same ones quoting Scripture are out there preaching death to the "other".
They either need to practice with they preach or clam up. I'm sick of seeing religion being weaponized as a fearmongering tool by rich and privileged individuals with an insatiable lust for power. It's the greatest of crimes against humanity. People by nature hate being controlled by anyone, including world leaders and oppressive governments.
Look at the Comics Code Authority fiasco spearheaded by Wertham, as told in Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics". It's censorship in spades, to the point of literally burning comics in the streets because ONE GUY said they're deviant and kid-harmful material. Telling someone what they can and can't write or read is dictating the person, CONTROLLING the person with the threat of legal action. Ugly.
